I fly airliners for a living.
I trade the same way.

I'm João, a commercial airline pilot based in Lisbon. Flying is my profession; Jara Trading is what I build on my own time, between flights. That matters more than it sounds, because it means I have never needed a trade to work. I only needed it to follow the rules.

A cockpit teaches you something most traders learn the expensive way: confidence is not a procedure. Every flight runs on checklists, limits decided in advance and a clear plan for when things don't go to plan. I spent years looking for trading systems that behave the same way, and threw out everything that didn't: martingales, grids, anything that hides its risk until the one bad week that ends the account.

What survived is a small set of disciplined breakout strategies. They aren't products I dreamed up to sell. They are the systems I run on my own capital and on funded prop firm accounts, and I publish them because they work for me.

What the cockpit taught my EAs

Checklists, not feelings

A pilot runs the same checklist on the thousandth flight as on the first. My EAs apply the same rules to every trade, on good days and bad ones.

Minimums are set before the approach

An approach has its minimums briefed before descent, not decided in the clouds. Every trade has its stop loss set before entry, and it is never widened.

A go-around is not a failure

Pilots are trained to abandon an approach without ego. A skipped setup or a small, controlled loss is the system doing its job.

The autopilot still needs a pilot

Automation removes fatigue and emotion from the routine work. It doesn't remove judgement: you still set the limits, watch the instruments and know when to switch it off.

Why run
multiple systems?

A single system, no matter how robust, has good months and bad ones. Running multiple uncorrelated breakout systems on different markets, timeframes and sessions is the closest thing to a free lunch in trading — diversification does most of the heavy lifting.

Uncorrelated assets

Gold, yen, NASDAQ, and bitcoin behave under fundamentally different drivers. When one stalls, another is moving. Drawdowns rarely line up.
